About this role
WikiWriters is looking for an experienced writer to research, draft, and maintain Wikipedia articles for our clients, who include individuals, businesses, and organisations. You will turn independent sources into neutral, well-cited content that follows Wikipedia’s editorial standards, and you will be honest with clients about what is and isn’t realistic.
Who you’ll work with
You’ll join our small team of Wikipedia content creators, working alongside researchers and editors. Each project is handled from first assessment to published page, with a named writer responsible for quality at every stage.
Responsibilities
Assess each subject against Wikipedia’s General Notability Guideline before work begins
Research and verify reliable, independent sources
Draft new articles in a neutral, encyclopedic voice, free of promotional language
Improve and rewrite existing pages that are inaccurate, outdated, or thinly sourced
Format citations, infoboxes, and page structure to Wikipedia’s standards
Submit drafts for review and respond to reviewer feedback
Monitor published pages for vandalism, errors, and unauthorised changes
Disclose paid-editing status on every project, in line with Wikipedia’s Terms of Use
Requirements
An active Wikipedia account with a public editing history (ideally 2+ years)
Proven experience creating or substantially editing live articles
Solid knowledge of notability, verifiability, neutral point of view, and conflict-of-interest policies
Strong research and writing skills with careful attention to sourcing
Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
Willingness to tell clients when a subject doesn’t yet qualify
Nice to have
Experience in a specific area, such as business, arts and entertainment, academia, or sport
Familiarity with wikitext and the Articles for Creation process
Experience editing in languages other than English
