About Us
Rivian and Volkswagen Group Technologies is a joint venture between two industry leaders with a clear vision for automotive’s next chapter. From operating systems to zonal controllers to cloud and connectivity solutions, we’re addressing the challenges of electric vehicles through technology that will set the standards for software-defined vehicles around the world. The road to the future is uncharted. By combining our expertise across connectivity, AI, security and more, we’ll map a new way forward. Working together, we’ll create a future that’s more connected, more intelligent, more sustainable for everyone.
Role Summary
RV Tech is seeking a Data and Platform Engineer to build, deploy, and own the applications, automations, and data flows that our engineering organization runs on. Sitting within the Process, Methods and Tools (PMT) team, you will turn the needs of engineering teams into working software: integrations between our engineering toolchain, automations that remove manual effort from day-to-day process execution, and the data pipelines and reporting that give leadership visibility into how development is progressing. This is a hands-on engineering role with product ownership built into it. You will be the technical builder and the product manager for what you build — gathering requirements directly from your users, prioritizing what gets built next, communicating status and trade-offs to stakeholders, and supporting what you ship once it's live. We are looking for someone who is genuinely comfortable on both sides of that line: writing and deploying production code, and sitting with a stakeholder to work out what they actually need.
Responsibilities

Application Development & Deployment: Design, build, deploy, and maintain applications and services that support engineering process execution. You own the full lifecycle — not just the code, but the deployment, monitoring, and support of what you build.

Automation & Integration: Build integrations and automations across our engineering toolchain (requirements management, issue management, and related systems) to eliminate manual handoffs and keep data consistent between systems.

Data Management & Reporting: Model, pipeline, and maintain the data behind our process and quality reporting using Databricks, ensuring it is accurate, current, and trusted by the teams and leaders who rely on it.

Product Ownership: Act as the product manager for your applications and automations. Elicit and document requirements, manage a backlog and roadmap, set expectations on scope and timing, and make prioritization calls with stakeholders across Rivian and VWG.

Stakeholder Collaboration: Work directly with engineering teams, process owners, and leadership in a global, joint-venture environment. Translate between process intent and technical implementation, and communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical audiences.

Platform & Operations: Manage the AWS and Databricks resources and GitLab CI/CD pipelines that your applications depend on, with an eye on reliability, security, and cost.

Sustainability: Document what you build and keep it maintainable, so tools and automations survive beyond any single contributor.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field — or equivalent practical experience.

Experience: 3+ years of professional software development experience, including applications you have personally taken from concept to production use by real users.

Python: Strong hands-on proficiency, including building services, automations, and data processing.

AWS: Practical experience deploying and operating applications on AWS (compute, storage, IAM, networking fundamentals).

Databricks: Working experience building and maintaining data pipelines and datasets on Databricks (Spark/PySpark, SQL, Delta).

GitLab: Experience with GitLab for source control and building CI/CD pipelines for automated testing and deployment.

Product Mindset: Demonstrated experience owning a tool, application, or automation end to end — gathering requirements from stakeholders, setting priorities, and being accountable for the outcome rather than just the ticket.

Communication & Collaboration: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across time zones and with stakeholders who are not software engineers.

Autonomy: Comfortable operating with limited direction in a fast-moving environment, identifying what needs to be done and driving it to completion.

Preferred Qualifications

Workflow & Low-Code Platforms: Experience with workflow automation or low-code application platforms, and knowing when to reach for one instead of writing a service from scratch.

Engineering Toolchain: Familiarity with requirements and issue management tools (e.g., Jira, Codebeamer, Polarion, DOORS) and their APIs.

Reporting & Visualization: Experience building dashboards and reporting layers (e.g., Databricks dashboards, Power BI, Tableau) and defining metrics with stakeholders.

Infrastructure as Code: Experience with Terraform or similar IaC tooling.

Front-End: Working knowledge of a modern front-end framework for building usable internal tools.

Domain: Experience in automotive, or another regulated or safety-critical engineering environment.

Total Rewards
We build the exceptional — and we believe the people doing that work should be rewarded accordingly. In addition to a competitive base salary, full-time positions may be is eligible to participate in our annual company performance bonus program. Payments are discretionary and not guaranteed; actual amounts depend on company results and the terms of the plan in effect, and require active employment at the time of payout. Senior Software Engineer - Computer Vision

About Us
Rivian and Volkswagen Group Technologies is a joint venture between two industry leaders with a clear vision for automotive’s next chapter.
About the Team
The Connectivity Edge AI team owns the software in the vehicle that moves and makes sense of vehicle data. Our work covers broadly these areas:

On-device AI. Running voice detection, speech and other ML models directly on vehicle compute so features keep working when the network does not.

Vehicle data collection - The upload and retrieval path for large payloads such as camera clips and ADAS recordings, including throughput, reliability, and cost over Wi-Fi and cellular.

Connected features - Connected features like live camera streaming and mobile video downloads.

Our software ships on Rivian R1 and R2, last-mile delivery vehicles, and Volkswagen Group platforms. Most of what we build has to work across several generations of hardware and more than one operating system.
About the Role
This is a hands-on individual contributor role for an engineer early in their career who wants real systems problems. You will write C++/Rust for services that run inside a car, under fixed CPU and memory budgets, latency targets a customer can feel, and no ability to redeploy in an afternoon.Where you start depends on your strengths and what the team needs at the time. You will work on one of the following areas as a starting project: the telemetry platform, the high-throughput upload path for ADAS and camera data, embedded inference for the voice assistant, and customer-facing features built on top of all three. We care far more about evidence that you build hard things than about years of experience or the particular stack you have used.
What You'll Do

Design and build native services in C++/Rust that run on vehicle compute across Linux, Android, and QNX targets.

Work on the telemetry platform: signal collection, metrics derived on the vehicle rather than in the cloud, diagnostics, and the tooling engineering teams use to configure what a fleet reports.

Improve the vehicle data upload path, including throughput and reliability over Wi-Fi and cellular, event-triggered and on-demand retrieval, and the cost of moving data at fleet scale.

Deploy and optimize ML models on the vehicle's NPU, including speech recognition, synthesis, and wake-word detection, and hold them to per-platform latency and accuracy targets.

Instrument what you build so it can be debugged in the field, then use that data to find and fix problems on real vehicles.

Benchmark, soak test, and defend performance budgets so regressions are caught before they ship.

Write design docs, review code, and debug on bench hardware and in vehicles.

Basic Qualifications

2-4 years of software engineering experience, or a BS or MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field with equivalent demonstrated building experience.

Demonstrated evidence of building complex software systems. This can come from anywhere: hackathons, project or robotics competitions, a university tech club or engineering team, a substantial internship, open-source contributions, or production work at a previous job. We want to hear about something you built, what was genuinely hard about it, and how you got it working.

Strong Linux and systems fundamentals: processes, threading and concurrency, memory, inter-process communication, and filesystems, plus the ability to debug a running system with tools like gdb, perf, and strace.

Proficiency in either C++ or Rust.

Ability to do methodical debugging on large interconnected systems.

Clear written communication in design docs, tickets, and code reviews.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with inference runtimes such as ONNX Runtime, TensorRT, TFLite, llama.cpp, ExecuTorch, or a silicon vendor SDK, including quantization and deployment to constrained hardware.

Experience with audio or speech models: speech recognition, text to speech, wake-word detection, voice activity detection, or audio signal processing.

Android development experience, particularly AOSP, the audio stack, HALs, Binder, or JNI.

Embedded, automotive, robotics, or other resource-constrained real-time systems.

Networking and large-scale data transfer: throughput tuning, gRPC or similar IPC frameworks, and observability tooling.

Contributions to open-source systems or ML infrastructure projects.

Why This Role
Edge AI sits where vehicle software turns into a product decision. The scope is broad enough that you will not spend years on one narrow thing, and the team is small enough that your work is visible in the car. You will get real ownership early, with senior engineers around to review it.
Total Rewards
We build the exceptional — and we believe the people doing that work should be rewarded accordingly. In addition to a competitive base salary, full-time positions may be is eligible to participate in our annual company performance bonus program. Data Engineering Intern - AI & Analytics (January - August 2027)

About Us
Rivian and Volkswagen Group Technologies is a joint venture between two industry leaders with a clear vision for automotive’s next chapter. Working together, we’ll create a future that’s more connected, more intelligent, more sustainable for everyone.Rivian and Volkswagen Group Technologies Canada is proud to be a Great Place To Work® Certified company — 92% of employees at RV Tech Canada say it is a great place to work, compared to 60% at a typical company.

Role Summary
Our portfolio spans five distinct systems:

A high-throughput telemetry query layer, serving time-series and aggregate queries against a real-time analytical store.

A low-latency current-state service, answering "what is this vehicle doing right now" in under 100 milliseconds.

A cloud control plane that pushes configuration out to vehicles at fleet scale and tracks every push through to acknowledgement.

A semantic metadata layer — the registry of what each signal means, its units, its provenance, and how it relates to every other signal.

A unified query gateway fronting all of the above, routing each request to the right backing store based on time range, cardinality, and latency budget.

The interesting problems live between those boxes rather than inside them. A configuration change on the control plane determines what the telemetry layer ingests, which determines what the gateway can route to, which determines what the metadata layer has to describe. An engineer who can hold that whole path in their head is worth more to us than a specialist in any single piece. You will write production Go and Python, work with document databases and columnar analytical stores, build and consume gRPC and REST APIs, and operate services that run continuously against a global fleet. You will be on call for what you build. You will read a great deal of other people's code, and other people will read a great deal of yours.

Responsibilities

Building Services

Design & Deliver: Own backend features (Go, Python, Rust) from design through to production rollout.

Extend Configuration: Evolve our declarative, schema-validated configuration system to enable new capabilities by modifying configuration rather than writing handler code.

Orchestrate Fleet Config: Manage complex vehicle-side feature lifecycles, focusing on idempotency and reliable state delivery to intermittently connected devices.

Data Platform

Platform Migration: Lead high-scale analytical store migrations, including schema design, ingestion, dual-writes, and cutover sequencing.

Optimize Tiered Storage: Build and maintain intelligent routing logic across low-latency key-value stores, mid-tier aggregation, and long-term lakehouse archives to balance performance and cost.

Stream Processing: Architect stateful, fleet-scale streaming consumers for enrichment and anomaly detection, tackling challenges like key skew, backpressure, and exactly-once semantics.

Reliability & Ownership

Observability: Implement meaningful metrics, logging, and distributed tracing that focus on user-facing symptoms rather than internal noise.

Production Support: Own your code in production by participating in on-call rotations, debugging incidents, and driving follow-up work to prevent recurrence.

System Integrity: Strengthen test coverage to identify cross-system logic errors and integration defects rather than just unit-level bugs.

Working Across Teams

Cross-Functional Partnership: Negotiate interface contracts with ingestion, firmware, and authentication teams to maintain clean boundaries.

Consumer Support: Directly support internal stakeholders (service engineering, product, autonomy) and use their feedback to drive platform improvements.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:

A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field - or the equivalent built the practical way.

Two or more years building and operating backend services in production. Operating counts as much as building here: we want someone who has been paged, debugged something with the clock running, and shipped the fix.

Strong proficiency in a statically typed, compiled backend language. Go and Python are what we write most; solid Java, Rust, C++, C#, or Kotlin experience translates well.

Real working knowledge of at least one database and how it behaves under load - indexing, query planning, connection pooling, and the difference between a query that is correct and a query that is fast. Document stores are closest to our world; strong relational experience is equally credible.

Practical experience designing and consuming HTTP or REST APIs, with opinions about versioning, backward compatibility, idempotency, and error semantics.

Comfort with the usual toolchain - Git, containerized local development, CI pipelines, and infrastructure-as-code at least at a read-and-modify level.

Clear writing. We are distributed across time zones, and most consequential technical decisions get made in a document or a merge request thread rather than a meeting. Writing well is not a soft skill on this team. It is load-bearing.

Legal authorization to work in Canada.

Preferred Qualifications

Production experience with Go and gRPC, including schema evolution in live systems.

Deep expertise in high-cardinality time-series data modeling and real-time/columnar OLAP stores.

Hands-on experience with distributed stream processing frameworks or distributed logs as primary data transport.

Background in managing data-intensive systems, including lakehouse architectures and unified machine learning/inference pipelines.

Experience with IoT fleets, connected devices, or telematics, supported by strong cloud (AWS/Kubernetes) and observability skills.

This role is also eligible for equity in the form of Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), subject to board approval and the terms of our equity incentive plans, including applicable vesting requirements.
